How do I make a complaint about noise in New York City?

There are actually two different types of noise complaints; immediate and ongoing noise.

For an immediate complaint (car or building alarm that doesn’t go off, screaming, loud music, late night construction, etc) call the police at your local precinct.

For ongoing noise, you must file a complaint with the Department of Environmental Protection (311). You can file a complaint over the phone, which will be followed up by a DEP investigator.
