Pitt Bull in Dog Friendly NYC Apartment Building

I have a Pitt Bull. I have been looking for an apartment and have seen many buildings that allow dogs. But when I get there they say no Pitt Bulls. Daisy is a sweet heart and I am not giving her up. Should I sneak her in or put that she is another breed on the application?

Daisy may be the best dog in the world, but if she is a Pitt Bull (or Pinscher, Rottwieler, or other “notorious” breed) you will find it very difficult to find an apartment. Why? Insurance companies have tagged Pitt Bulls as dangerous and have refused to issue insurance to building owners that allow the breed. Since building owners legally have to maintain insurance…..

Sneaking Daisy in as some other sort of breed is foolish. You will lose your apartment and if Daisy does cause a disturbance, you could well lose Daisy too. The animal control and police have a no tolerance policy towards “notorious” breeds. There is no point in attempting to convince the landlord or management company that Daisy is a great dog. Their hands are tied because of insurance. If you must bring a dog into the City, that will scare your neighbors you will need to search far and wise to find a landlord that will accept your tenancy.
