How can I volunteer?

New Yorker’s have always been generous with their money when it comes to charity causes. But many find the idea of working “hand’s on” with the disadvantaged, much more difficult. For some, it is a matter of timing. New Yorker’s seem to work 24-7 leaving little time to give. For others, finding a cause that they can really support long term can be an issue. For most people though, simply figuring out how to help is the biggest hurdle.

The Mayor’s Volunteer Center and the United Way have teamed up to make volunteering easy and straight forward. By launching www.VolunteerNYC.org the organizations have provided New Yorker’s with a simple way to find out which volunteering opportunities are available. Better yet, VolunteerNYC.org provides over 30 different categories of organizations that heed your assistance, so there is something for everyone. Whether you are most interested in helping animals, people suffering from a particular ailment, or the arts, the database provides you details of all of the organizations and the type of assistance that they are seeking.

www.VolunterNYC.org actually goes further by providing details of “one-off” events that will allow those new to volunteering a “taster” of sorts before the commit or provides people who find themselves with only occasional free time, the ability to get involved with organizations that most need them for particular events.

While volunteering is good for the community and good for the soul, it is also a great way to meet people.
