This weekend (weather permitting) should be a great time to get out to the street fairs! For those of you new to New York City, nearly every weekend throughout the spring, summer, and autumn, New York City closes down a section of street or avenue to hold a street fair. Generally packed full of vendors selling all sorts of treasures (and fun junk too), great food, often music, the street fairs are completely free!
While some of the fairs are really location oriented (the upcoming 3rd Avenue Merchants Expo) most have a particular theme.
This Saturday (22nd of April) is the Earth Awareness Day festival which runs from Broadway and Waverly place to 5th Avenue. Expect a very earth friendly theme!
Tomorrow (23rd of April) is the Times Square Spring Block Party which takes place on 45th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue. Except a lot of vendors, great live music, and dancing.
Next Saturday (29th of April) the Police athletic League holds it's annual PAL Festival at University Place running from Waverly to 14th Street. This event showcases the great work of the PAL and invites the continued support and assistance of the community.
Next Sunday (30th of April) is the 3rd Avenue Merchants Spring Expo at 3rd Avenue between 23rd Street and 34th Street. The vendors expo brings the great restaurants, shops, and boutiques out onto the street. A wonderful way to check out the merchandise of shops that you may not be familiar with.
Favorites? There really is something for everyone.
Miss the food from down south? Be sure to try sweet potato or key lime pie
Love Greek? Several vendors sell fresh made Gyros piled high with filling
Can't wait for St Agrapina Day? Enjoy hot Italian sausage and peppers
We love to top it all off with fresh squeezed, tangy lemonade.
