Best Places To See The Fireworks

The resurgence in patriotism is evident all across the country, but in no place more so than New York City. This year celebrate the Good Ol’US of A by attending one of the most spectacular fireworks displays ever. Now in it’s 30th year, the Grand Daddy of all Fireworks displays has to be the annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. Barges in the East River are used to launch over one hundred thousand fireworks and aerial shells, providing not only one of the largest fireworks displays in the world but certainly America’s most iconic event.

The best vantage point is probably from South Point on Roosevelt Island. You will need tickets to view the display from South Point, but the $18.00 admission is well worth it.

If you are in Manhattan and you have a friend with a roof terrace or an East River facing balcony, you are in luck. If not, head over to the FDR which will be closed off between 14th Street and 42nd Street and from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal to Pearl Street for the display between 7-10pm.

Outside of Manhattan, you should have an excellent view from Greenpoint in Brooklyn and Hunter’s Point in Queens as well as popular Queensbridge Park.

Remember: All public viewing areas are controlled by the police and Park Services. Most will not allow you to bring in backpacks or bags, pets, or bottles of any kind.
