New York City Events - September

National Football League

September launches football season and New York has two top teams for whom to cheer. Both the New York Jets and the New York Giants are based at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey, though when the Jet’s play the stadium is referred to as the Meadowlands. While watching a game on the TV or at a bar is fun, there is nothing like the excitement of watching a game live. For information on either team, head to their web sites or call ticket vendors for the next game date.

Broadway on Broadway

September 16 11:30
Times Square celebrates Broadway with a free, open air concert featuring numbers from major Broadway productions and the stars of “The Great White Way.” This is a great introduction to shows that you haven’t yet seen or to reminisce over your favorites. The concert is great fun and culminates with a real confetti finale.

Feats of San Gennaro

This year, one of the largest street festivals in the City celebrates it’s 80th anniversary. For ten days, the streets of Little Italy are transformed by the famous Fest of San Gennaro. While the festival celebrates the Patron Saint of Naples and has a strong religious element in the parading of the Statue of the Saint through the streets, for most New Yorkers, it is an excuse to sample truly amazing foods, enjoy music and entertainment, ride carnival rides and watch the stunning parade. From the 13th through the 23th of September, you can experience the Fest on Mulberry and Mott Streets between Canal and Houston. If you want to attend the Celebratory Mass which occurs before the official procession, it is held at the Most Precious Blood Church on Mulberry Street on the 19th. For information about the festival, call 212-768-9320.
